Two trails in Golden Ears Provincial Park will be affected by temporary closures later this month.
The Spirea Trail will be closed as of Wednesday, Jan. 17, so workers can complete accessibility trail improvements. Improvements include: replacing aging retaining walls; re-installing benches at rest areas; and trail tread improvements including new gravel throughout the trail.
Work is expected to finish in April and the trail will remain closed until that time. The Spirea parking lot will also be closed while the work is taking place.
Road construction will be taking place starting Thursday, Jan. 25, impacting those who want to enjoy trekking around Mike Lake.
According to the BC Parks website, road construction operations will involve rock blasting in the UBC Malcolm Knapp Research Forest.
It is because of this that there will be temporary, short-term duration closures along the Mike Lake Trail.
Although each closure will only be a few minutes in duration, BC Parks is asking visitors to obey all signage and direction from UBC Forest Staff along Mike Lake Trail until further notice.
Since Dec. 5, there has been no road access to the northern portion of the park due to “a road failure” because of an “atmospheric river event”.
• The News has reached out to Alouette Parks Management, who operate both Golden Ears and Rolley Lake Provincial Parks, for an update to the Dec. 5 road closure.
