TransLink earkmarks $45m for road, cycling projects

Spending in Metro Vancouver includes Fraser Highway widening, extended bikeways

TransLink says it will spend more than $45 million on Metro Vancouver road upgrades this year.

Most of the money – $39 million – is contributed to municipalities to maintain and repair sections of the region's 600-kilometre Major Road Network of arterial routes.

But another $6.7 million goes to new road and bike projects in 12 municipalities.

They include the four-lane-widening of the Fraser Highway in Langley Township, the Tannery Greenway multi-use pathway in Surrey and the Murray Street bikeway extension in Port Moody.

The spending on roads and cycling represents three per cent of TransLink's $1.49-billion budget, 60 per cent of which goes to transit operations.

Cities get funding from TransLink based on their share of the Major Road Network.
