Someone is stealing the tailgates off pickups in Maple Ridge.

Ridge Meadows RCMP are advising pickup truck owners of these recent thefts.

“Since March 1, 2016 Ridge Meadows RCMP have received five reports of pickup truck tailgates being stolen," said Cpl. Brenda Winpenny.

"So far the thieves have targeted newer models of both Toyota and Ford trucks, which have factory installed locks on the tailgates. However, it appears that owners are not using the locks, making the thieves work easier.

Police are asking for anyone with any information on these thefts to notify them.  As well, if a citizen sees someone with a tailgate in their possession to notify police right away.

Police recommend pickup truck owners that have locking tailgates to simply use the lock.  For older models that do not have locking tailgates, it is recommended that a lock be installed.

Anyone with any information regarding tailgate thefts is asked to call Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604 463-6251, or if you wish to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222-8477 or leave a TIP online at www.solvecrime.ca.  Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $2000 if your information leads to an arrest and conviction.
