A massive fire at Brown Avenue and Edge Street has decimated a condo complex and displaced hundreds of Maple Ridge residents.
The fire, which started around midnight Friday, and continued into the early hours of Saturday, June 10, engulfed the new development in the 22500-block of Brown Avenue and the residential building behind it located at 22562 121st Ave.
According to Ridge Meadows RCMP, the apartment complex was completely evacuated, with up to three other residential buildings also being impacted by the fire.
“There’s some heat damage on buildings east and north of the fire,” said the RCMP watch commander.
Several streets have been blocked off as the firefighters continue their efforts to fully extinguish the flames. However, the City of Maple Ridge has reported that the fire is now under control.

Brown Avenue is closed between Edge Street and 227th Street, 121st Avenue is closed between Edge Street and 227th Street, and Edge Street is closed between 121st and Brown Avenue.
RCMP warned that these streets will likely be blocked off “for the foreseeable future.”
“We’re still in fire management mode,” said the watch commander.
Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue deputy fire chief Tracy Warren said that Pitt Meadows was called in to assist and currently had four firefighters and the chief Mike Larsson on scene.
“The fire is like 90 per cent out, we’re just containing hotspots,” said Warren.
Despite the severity of the blaze, Provincial Health Services Authority reported that only one individual was transported to hospital.
Anyone displaced by the fire is asked to report to the Greg Moore Youth Centre, at 11925 Haney Pl., where emergency services and Red Cross are on scene to help aid people.
