UPDATE: Motorcyclist killed after hitting exit gate in Delta

Man dies at the scene after crashing in the 2700-block of Deltaport Way

A motorcyclist was killed Sunday morning after he crashed into a guard rail in Delta.

According to a Delta Police Department press release, the biker was exiting the port onto the 2700-block of Deltaport Way around 9 a.m. on June 10 when he was involved in a single-vehicle collision, possibly coming into contact with an exit gate. No other vehicles were involved.

The driver, a 37-year-old Delta man, was taken immediately to hospital, but died shortly thereafter. His family has been notified of his death.

“Due to the serious nature of the crash, the Delta Police collision reconstructionist was called to the scene to identifying, document and measure the physical evidence,” Cris Leykauf, DPD public affairs coordinator, said in the press release.

One eastbound lane was shut down until nearly 4 p.m. while investigators combed for evidence.

Speed appears to have been a factor, but police have yet to provide any details.

Leykauf said the accident remains under investigation.
