A few students from a Maple Ridge school, decided to celebrate Valentine’s day spreading love to honour frontline workers.
Last week, Westview Secondary students participated in a campaign to honour frontline workers and spread some love around Maple Ridge on Valentine’s Day.
Colleen MacDonald, a teacher at the school, said several classes worked together to create more than 400 messages of thanks, which they spread around the community, along with photos and lollipops.
A total of 42 locations received letters, which were given to hospital staff, hospice staff, workers in long-term care facilities, gas stations, the fire hall, the police station, the ambulance station, the vaccination clinic, as well as several grocery stores and restaurants.
FreshCo Maple Ridge even posted a note of gratitude on their Facebook page, and said, “Thank you Westview Secondary this is very much appreciated. All us staff at Maple Ridge FreshCo want you to know how you have brightened our day!!!”
“It was an impactful project that our students truly enjoyed,” said MacDonald, who teaches English to Grade 9 and 12 students. “Gratitude is part of our daily classroom routine and this was an opportunity for them to show their appreciation for so many members of our community.”
She added that students got help from photography teacher Brent Kingman and April Allan’s Grade 8 classes also participated in this campaign.
