RCMP investigate a shooting on Dewdney Trunk Road in Maple Ridge on Tuesday.

RCMP found a woman shot in the leg at a house in west Maple Ridge Tuesday evening, according to reports.

Police responded to a call about a shooting in the 21100-block of Dewdney Trunk Road just before 7 p.m.

They arrived to find a house full of people and a female with a gunshot wound to the upper leg.

“There were a number of people inside the residence, with only the one person being injured," said Cpl. Brenda Winpenny.

Presently police can only describe the shooter as a male, although occupants reported the suspect fired rounds from an automatic weapon and fled on foot.

"It is hoped investigators will learn more as further interviews take place," Winpenny added. "This appears to be targeted and the investigation is in the hands of the Serious Crimes Unit.”

The Lower Mainland District’s Police Service Dog unit is assisting with a thorough search of the scene and surrounding area, while witnesses are being interviewed.

The female victim suffered what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Royal Columbian Hospital by ambulance.

RCMP continue to investigate.
