June 26, 1941 - May 30, 2025
In loving memory ~
Alan Kenneth Chin - a man of deep Christian faith, devoted husband and father of ten, died peacefully at his home on May 30, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born in Lucknow, Ontario as the youngest of fourteen children, Alan earned a PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Oregon before teaching at York University and Douglas College. His teaching approach centred around his Head, Hands, Heart approach: teach the theory, let students apply it, and ground every lesson in genuine care for people, because, as he often said, "People don't care what you know until they know that you care."
The same warmth shaped his life at home where he was rooted in faith. His days opened in quiet devotion and closed in grateful prayer. He clung to Jeremiah 29:11, the promise of God's faithfulness and hope, even in the midst of adversity, and loved to remind others of this powerful pearl.
He met his wife, Anne, at Regent College and together they built a home that overflowed with hospitality and love. He is survived by Anne and their children Joddi-Jay, Jason, Elisabeth, Rebecca, Michael, David, Crystal, Bianca, Brianna, and Deeanna; many grandchildren; and siblings Mary, Morley and Jack. Alan was predeceased by his siblings: Jim, Harry, Sam, Frank, William, Albert, George, Gladys, Margaret, and Charles.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 2:00 pm at St. George Church in Maple Ridge.

"To teach is to touch a life forever." Alan Chin did exactly that, touching many, and his legacy lives on in every head, hand, and heart he inspired. Well done, good and faithful servant of Christ.
