May 28, 1922 - December 24, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Albert (Al) William Evans announces his sudden passing on December 24, 2018, at the age of 96. The fourth of five children, Al was born in Vancouver to Evan Owen Evans and Gwen Jane Rowlands. Al grew up in the Kitsilano district and had many wonderful tales to tell of life in Vancouver.

At the age of sixteen he joined the Canadian Army and was stationed in Ontario in the Service Corps as driver, then as a cook. Near the end of the war Al was stationed in Northern Manitoba at a P.O.W. camp. Even after the war and his discharge Al stayed in the Army Reserves. After the war Al worked as a truck and a courier driver and was guaranteed to know all the shortcuts around town.

In 1950, Al married the love of his life, Doreen, and they raised their four daughters, Annie, Heather (Bob), Dayle (Raye) and Jeannie (Darold) in the Greater Vancouver area. Al will also be greatly missed by his loving sister, Ethel. Al was pre-deceased by his grandchildren, Sean and Melanie and will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Heidi, Stephen, Morgan, Erin, April, Haley, Amber, Shawn, Kyla and Kristina and his great-grandchildren, Trenton, Logan, Colton, Carson, Cailyn, Cohen, Ethan, Makayla and James.

In the 1980s Al and Doreen moved to Maple Ridge. Al was a man with a ready smile, quick to help his family and friends and always had the time to share a story or two.

A Celebration of Life for Al will be held on January 26, 2019, 11 am at the Ford Road Co-op Community Building.
