MOWATT (nee Openshaw), Anne.
It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of our mother on Oct. 27, 2005. Anne was born on July 15, 1915 in Vernon, BC. After graduating highschool, she worked at Kelly Douglas (Nabob) in Vernon. As a member of the Local Stagette group during the war, she met her husband Graham. They were married on Sept. 14, 1944, moved to Vancouver in 1946, Mission in 1947 and Haney in 1949 where they started the business “Esquire Men’s Wear”.
Mom was very involved in the community, helping set up the first Blood Donor Clinic, a Charter Member of the Lady Lion’s, one of the founding Director’s of Golden Ears Retirement Centre, and life-long member of Eastern star. She enjoyed many sports from an early age including basketball, skiing (helped build one of the first cabins on Silverstar), biking, camping and numerous rounds of golf throughout North America.
Anne and Graham were blessed with the birth of daughter Elizabeth and twin sons Graham and Ed. While raising their family, they enjoyed traveling around the world and forming life-long friendships through Lions International. After retiring from their business, “Esquire Men’s Wear” in 1977, they enjoyed more time with their growing family and continued to travel world wide. In her later years, Anne kept busy playing bridge and keeping in contact with her family and many friends.
Mom was predeceased by her sister Betty on Oct. 24, 2005. She was loved and will be deeply missed by husband Graham of 61 years, daughter Elizabeth (Ron Sens), sons Graham (Jacinta) and Ed (Pat), grandchildren Jennifer (Ben Woolley), David, Heather, Adrianna, Graham and Eoin, sister-in-law Lena Openshaw, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 5, 2005 at MAPLE RIDGE FUNERAL CHAPEL (Osborn’s), 11969 – 216th St., Maple Ridge, BC at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation in Mom’s memory.
