WAIGHORN, Arthur


Arthur Elliott Waighorn of Maple Ridge died peacefully at the age of 93 on February 19th, 2015. He was born the eldest of five children on January 25th, 1922 in Regina. He spent his youth growing up in Winnipeg and in 1940 at age 18, he enlisted in the Canadian Army. In 1941 he married his late wife Jean Sutyla, they were married for 57 years before her passing in 1989. When Arthur returned from the war, he moved his family to Hope BC, then on to Maple Ridge in 1956 where he remained for the rest of his life. He was a self-taught carpenter and throughout his career built many beautiful homes in Maple Ridge. He continued to work into his 70’s and cared for his own home into his late 80’s. Arthur was a member of Saint Patrick’s parish and belonged to the Maple Ridge Royal Canadian Legion where he marched in Remembrance Day parades up to his 90th year. He loved cars, motorcycles, hunting, fishing and singing country songs. He was devoted throughout his life to the many dogs who shared it. Colleen (Dave), Tara (Graeme), Todd (Tracy) and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral service to be held at Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel 11969-216th St. Maple Ridge BC, on Thursday February 26th 2015 at 10:30 am.
