Audun Kjell Gram Tjernagel

December 3, 1933 - September 6, 2017

On Wednesday, September 6, 2017, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Audun Kjell Gram Tjernagel, passed into the loving presence of His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Audun was born December 3, 1933 in Tjernagel, Norway to Thomas and Marie Tjernagel.

Around the age of 17, he began his career as a seaman working on boats which took him to many worldwide destinations. With his sights set on being a captain of his own boat, in 1958 Audun headed to Canada - all alone and with only $90 in his pocket. It was there, in Vancouver, that he met the love of his life Eha (Linde) and they were married on April 7, 1961. After a year of marriage and the birth of their first daughter, Ingrid, they moved to Port Coquitlam where their family soon grew to include Julie and Dennis.

Audun was a tradesman at heart and loved to work with his hands, in fact, he was known to be able to fix almost anything. But the work that he wanted to do most was to be a captain of his own fishing boat and that happened in 1977 when be purchased his boat, the Sylvoreen. His fishing career brought him great success and happiness and he fished until his retirement in 1999.

Never one to sit still, Audun filled his retirement days woodworking, painting, helping others and enjoying time with family. Although he loved the sea and his family, the greatest desire of his heart was to live his life as a faithful servant of his Lord and Savior and that is exactly what he did.

His enduring example of integrity, love, commitment and faithfulness will be the legacy that he leaves to all knew and loved him.

He is predeceased by parents, Thomas and Marie (Gram) Tjernagel and his sister, Aslaug (Tjernagel) Bua. He is survived by his loving wife, Eha (Linde) Tjernagel, his daughter Ingrid (Terry) Janzen, his daughter Julie (Ben) Brandsema, his son, Dennis (Katherine) Tjernagel and grandchildren, Brandon (Kayla), Torrey, Jenna, Brody, Cassidy, Angelica, Aimee and Marcus.

He also leaves behind his brother, Johannes and his sister Inger and many nieces and nephews in Canada and in Norway who loved their uncle deeply.

A memorial service to remember his life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, September 16, 2107 at Riverside Community Church, 1477 Lougheed Highway, Port Coquitlam.
