Born in New Westminster, B.C. to C. Allison Peele (Capt., Hyack Anvil Battery) and Eva Peele (Dunnell), of the founding Peele Family, Barbara passed away peacefully at North Shore Hospice after a short illness.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Gary Haswell. She is survived by her daughter Laurie (Janine), daughter Jennifer, and son Jeffrey (Tani) and 6 grandchildren - Jacob, Benjamin, Samantha, Callie, Hannah and Sophie.
Mom spent her youth very active in Highland dance, skating, softball, track, tennis, Job's Daughters Bethel #7. She took her first part-time job at Woodward's Food Floor when the store opened in 1954 until she joined the RCAF in 1957 after graduating from Lester Pearson HS (NWSS). Mom was posted to St. Jean, QC, then to 3(F)Wing, Zweibrücken, Germany, returning to Canada in 1961.
With our Dad, Alan, Mom raised her family in Port Moody, B.C., spent countless hours in hockey rinks, volunteered at RCH, and returned to administrative work in 1985 until she retired as Executive Assistant to two VPs at SFU in 2004. Mom loved to cook, read, watch sports, camping, play golf and tennis. She was an avid, lifelong bowler and, like her father, a newshound of print and screen. She will be missed.
