Dan SMITH

SMITH, Dan

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we have said goodbye to our Papa bear. Dan slipped away peacefully at home, surrounded by family listening to his favourite tunes, on the evening of February 5th. Raised in Vancouver, Dan and Robbi moved to Maple Ridge in 1977 to start a family. What started as a family home quickly became the hub for parties, fires, big ball tournaments, sleepovers, and all-sings. Always preferring to be the host, spirits flowed and laughter was in abundance as no one can beat his witty storytelling. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the palliative care team, who provided an enormous amount of support, which allowed us to keep him home. Special thanks to Dr. Louise, Sandy, Carol, and all the wonderful home care workers along the way. Dan found comfort in Sandy’s consistent visits throughout his palliative days. It was a wonderful surprise to have Carol’s insightful way of caring at the end. Thank you to Sandy and David who went above and beyond the call of family by putting their lives on hold and moving in for a month. Without their tremendous support it would have been even more challenging to fulfill Dan’s wish of passing at home. He is survived by his loving wife Robbi, his two children, Manderella (Sam) & Jason (Melissa), and his four wonderful grand-babies (Sofia, Joey, Emily, and Layne). Dan was predeceased by his sister Mary. He is survived by his sister Pat (John) and nieces/nephews David, Kerri, Glenn & Calum. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 30, 2017 at The Townhall 20690 Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge from 1-4pm. A special tribute is scheduled for 2pm. For all those interested in attending, remember that Dan wanted a party, so please refrain from wearing all black.
