SUMMERS

David Ormond

1922 ~ 2008

David Summers passed away in Vancouver on September 6, 2008. Beloved husband of the late Isla (Butler) Summers (2007). He was predeceased by his brother Grant. Born August 7, 1922 in Devon England, Dave emigrated to Kamloops B.C. with his late parents and his two brothers Grant and Jeff in 1926.

He was well known for many early years as a fine gymnast and diver in the Kamloops area – coaching numerous young people as well. Dave and his late wife Isla subsequently resided at Eagle Bay on Shuswap Lake, Qualicum Beach, and most recently in Maple Ridge. Always an avid swimmer, fisherman, boater, golfer and outdoorsman, Dave and his family frequently returned to his beloved Shuswap over the years. He will be remembered as the co-owner of the Summers Colour Centre (paint and decorating business) in Kamloops. As well, Dave gave years of significant service with such vital community organizations as the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Board of Education, Thompson Rivers University (a founding board-member), and as a distinguished alderman on the Kamloops City Council.

Dave’s great sense of humour and passion for life will be missed by his loving children Jerry, Judy, Gay (Rudichuk), Karen (Curtis) and Doug (Butler) as well as all his adoring grandchildren, extended family and the many friends he made throughout his life.

The family expresses Special appreciation to the superb doctors and nurses at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, those wonderful care- givers at Lion’s Gate Hospital and at Churchill House residence in North Vancouver. Thank you to all who so generously enriched Dave’s final passage with love and care.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation. A memorial service will be given at Churchill House, 150 West 29th Avenue, North Vancouver on Sunday, September 14th at 2:00 p.m.
