Beloved husband to Alma for 72 years.
It is with sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Grace. Doug passed peacefully at Ridge Meadows Hospital with his family by his side.
Doug was born in Cornwall, Ontario to Selena and Jack Grace. He had an older brother who passed away at a very young age. As a child, Doug became interested in drumming and would roam the streets playing his little drum for coins. Later in life he became a drummer boy in the army. One day he saw a lovely girl, at the factory where they both worked, and he knew immediately this was the girl he would marry and he did. They were both smitten at first sight and married on September 10th, 1949. They moved to St. Catharines in 1953 where Doug worked at a paper mill for several years until he had a serious injury to his leg. He worked at several jobs after that but his passion and love was always drumming. His passion came to be when he took a 13 year gig with the legendary Walter Ostanek, Polka King. He also worked with several other great recording artists.
They decided to move to British Columbia to be closer to family whom had moved to BC prior. In 2018 they moved into an independent living facility, Chartwell Willow Manor, where they showed off their dancing skills and love for each other. They resided there until now. He will be terribly missed and always loved by his wife Alma, children Donna Adams (Murray); Sandra Phillips (Clay); Danny Grace (Rebecca) and Gary Grace, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends in both British Columbia and Ontario.
Thank you to the wonderful and compassionate Management and staff of Willow Manor and to everyone at Ridge Meadows Hospital who kept him as comfortable as possible in his final days.
At his request there will be no service.
