WALSKE, Elsie Viola

Nov 15, 1922 ~ Oct 28, 2010

With sadness and love we announce the passing of Elsie Viola Walske (nee Irwin). Elsie leaves behind her loving husband Alf Walske, daughter Cheryl (Doug), daughter-in-law Lyn, granddaughters Noelle (Benoit), Laurel (Rasool), Adele (Mark), Megan, great grandchildren Gabrielle, Florence, Charlotte, Miles, Dominic, Rhys, Aniqa and Naeema. Her son Grant predeceased her.

Elsie was born at home on the farm in Miami, Manitoba, one of fourteen children. Her sister Irene, brothers Harold and Ross survive her. Elsie and Alf were married October 21, 1944 and lived in Maple Ridge B.C. from 1947 to 2005. Family was everything to Mom. She loved to share with us that which she created with her hands: her veggies, her knitted sweaters, her baking and her flowers. Her star role was as "Grandma". She lovingly played with and cared for her granddaughters, learning to swim in her fifties just so she could take them to the lake, the beach or the local pool. Many of her friends will remember her as captain of the bowling team "Group Therapy" in the Wednesday Seniors League. Elsie was also a dedicated attendee at services in the United Church, especially enjoying the singing of the hymns. Mom set a fine example of wife, mother, grandmother and friend influencing the three generations after her. We are so thankful for her long, loving life. Her memory is alive in us. There will be a Memorial Service at St. Paul's United Church, Kelowna B.C. on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 1:30 PM. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. & Yukon.
