GERDUNG: Eveline Louise (Rice). Eveline died peacefully on February 5, 2014 at 88 years of age. She was born in Brandon, Manitoba on Feb. 4, 1926 to Harold and Jessie Rice. Her husband, Douglas, predeceased her in 1996. She is survived by her daughters: Karen Brisbois (Rick) of Prince George and her children: Michael (Jolene, Christopher, Evelyn), Colin (Kiki, Owen, Madison, Charlotte), Jessica, Christine (Amanda), Kathryn Rankin (Jim) of Maple Ridge and her daughters Laurel Huber (Tynan) and Julie (Matt), Barbara Larkin (Gord) of Burnaby and her sons Clayton Shannon and Andrew Shannon (Megan). Her younger brother Harold “Bill” Rice (Patsy) of Scotts Valley, California and best friends June Gavin & Edie Naganobu also survive her. Ev moved to Vancouver as a young girl and attended Van Horne and John Oliver schools. After graduation she attended Vancouver Art School where she began a lifetime of artistic pursuits. Ev and Doug met and married in Vancouver and built their first house on Dumfries St. In the early 60’s they immigrated to California, staying for 4 years and making many lifelong friends. The family moved back to Vancouver in 1966 and started a business, Bekk Die-Craft, where Ev and Doug worked until their retirement. In 1983 they moved to Maple Ridge and enjoyed traveling to Europe, US and Mexico, and studying family genealogy. After Doug’s death, Ev furthered her artistic skills with the Garibaldi Art Club, played bridge, and spent time socializing with her family. There will be no service as per her request, but a donation may be made in her honor to a charity of your choice. Her legacy of artwork that adorns our walls will continue to remind us of her.
