MCLEAN, Francis Neil

(August 14, 1922 - May 20, 2016)


Neil passed away peacefully in his sleep at McKenney Creek Hospice Residence in Maple Ridge, BC. He was a proud supporter of Ridge Meadows Hospice over the years and was well taken care of by the kind and attentive staff, which made him feel at home. Neil was born in Star City, Saskatchewan and was proud of his roots. He enlisted in the Saskatchewan Light Infantry during World War II. Neil lived in many places finally settling in Maple Ridge in 1969. He worked for the Provincial Parks services at Golden Ears Park and retired to work almost full time as a volunteer for many years. He volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, Canadian Red Cross, Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 88 and especially the Golden Ears Kiwanis. Neil truly lived life to the fullest and enjoyed the simple pleasures such as chatting with friends, playing crib, spending time with family, and keeping an active social calendar. He will be fondly remembered for his strength of character, positive attitude, lively sense of humour and his wit and charm. Neil was predeceased by his beloved wife Velda Margaret Morrison. He is survived by his 5 children Allan (Carol) McLean, Dan (Judy) McLean, David (Carol) McLean, Melody (Jeff) Norburn and Beverly (Sonny) Bihari; 13 grandchildren Emily (Chris) Greenaway, Callum McLean, Jason McLean, Stacey (Mike) Leeson, Kristy McLean, Shawn (Danielle) McLean, Matt McLean (Sandra), Robert McLean, Carolyn McLean, Diandra Norburn, Rylan Norburn, Deven Bihari, Breanne Bihari and 10 great grandchildren Delilah,Patrick and Finlay Greenaway; David, Ryan and Kiarra Leeson; Emily and Jack McLean, Cadence and Samantha Ferguson. He will be loved, cherished and remembered by all who knew him. Please join us for his Celebration of Life June 18, 2016 at the Maple Ridge Royal Canadian Legion (Branch #88) at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the Maple Ridge Palliative Care Society, Canadian Cancer Society, the Golden Ears Kiwanis Club or a charity of your choice.
