DUNLOP, George Douglas
It is with hearts full of gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of our father, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather George Dunlop. Predeceased by his wife and partner of 53 years, Joan. He leaves behind sons Douglas, Bruce (Diane), and daughters Kathy (John) and Diane. He will be missed by his grandchildren Tyler (Allison), Blake (Stacy), Chase (Jessica), step grandson Erik (Isabella) as well as great grandchildren James, Nathan, Brendan, Mason and step great grandson Michael.
George was born in Semans Saskatchewan, proudly helping his Mum Luella and sisters Marjorie and Shirley while his Dad was fighting overseas and later when they lost him. An excellent hockey player, George was drafted by Chicago Blackhawks while playing Jr A hockey for the Sask Blades but he chose a career with Saskatchewan Power, married Joan and soon moved to BC to raise their family. He spent many years as an IBEW electrician, later as an estimator for H.A. Simons and Flanders Installations. George's greatest pride was when he started his own union electrical contracting business Dunlop Electric Ltd. in which his whole family participated. In his retirement George spent many happy years as a keen lawn bowler and travelling to Arizona with Joan.
George will be remembered for his love of life. He participated in everything whether work or play with great enthusiasm. George was known for his kindness and always willing to help others. Nothing brought a twinkle to his eye more than his grandsons and great grandsons.
A gathering to honour his memory will be held at Golden Ears United Church, 22165 Dewdney Trunk Road, Maple Ridge, B.C. on Saturday, January 14th, 2017 at 12:00 pm with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
