April 10, 1947 - May 15, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful man, George Fredrick Jones on Friday May the 15th, 2020 at the age of 73. George was born on April the 10th, 1947 in Chilliwack, BC.
George developed a passion for welding in high school. After he graduated high school, he worked for the Rosedale Machine Shop for a few years before moving up to Quesnel. George married Katharina (Tina) Marie Dyck on September the 29th, 1972 and moved to Squamish where he worked at Woodfiber. In 1980 he became a welding instructor at BCIT and finally moved back to his favourite place, Columbia Valley.
In 2001, he was involved in a tragic car accident that unfortunately left him partly paralyzed. George has always had a passion for farming and to him there was no better place to be. His toys helped him keep his beloved cows happy; his diesel truck, the workshop, the irrigation system, the tractors and his 4-wheel gator (John Deere of course). Unfortunately, last December he ended up in the hospital and then in rehab which kept him from seeing 9 new baby calves arrive this spring.
George is pre-deceased by his father George Jones, stepfather Ignacy Wasik, mother Jessie (Belgrove-Jones) Wasik and his loving wife Tina. George is survived by his son Peter Jones, daughter-in-law Sherry Jones, his daughter Georgina (Shad) Bassett, 2 grandsons, Jason Jones and Tyler Jones and 4 great grandchildren Carter, Alexis, Sierra and Connor; his brother Larry Wasik (Pia) and their 2 children Andrew and Sarah Wasik; along with his Uncle Leonard Belgrove, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. George has a very special place in the hearts of everyone who knew him. His down to earth, matter of fact attitude and farm boy smile will definitely be remembered.
Due to physical distancing measures, a private funeral service will be held. A celebration of life in honour of George will be held as soon as the physical distancing measures are lifted. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George's honour to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Royal Canadian Legion.
