Gerald (Gerry) Fry, a long-time resident of Maple Ridge, BC, passed away suddenly and peacefully in Ridge Meadows Hospital at the age of 82. Gerald was born to Rev. Frank Weston and Dorothy Jane Fry (nee Dill) in Windsor, Nova Scotia. He grew up in Wolfville, NS, where he attended Acadia University (BA '50), met and married the love of his life, Paula Jane MacNearney in 1951. He joined the RCAF for a few years, serving in Ottawa and Vancouver, before beginning a career in education where he worked at Cambie Secondary School (Richmond, BC), Haney Correctional Institute, Centennial High School(Coquitlam), and Maple Ridge Senior Secondary. Predeceased by his younger brother Fred, Gerry will be remembered lovingly by his wife of 57 years, Paula, his children, Alan (Pam), Janis, and Leigh Ann Higgins (Ted), grandchildren Troy, Tiggy, Heather, Emma, Alexi, and Kathleen, brother Frank (Helen), sisters Elizabeth Hannah (Jack)and Margaret Prudence, and many nieces and nephews. When people struggled, he was always there to help, with his quiet strength and kind and loving heart. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many very special friends. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 26, at 2:00 pm at St. John the Divine Anglican Church, 21299 River Road, Maple Ridge. A reception will follow at the family home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
