Born on May 18, 1935 in Hamburg-Bergedorf Germany, Harald (Harry) passed away on January 27, 2023, in Maple Ridge, BC, in the loving presence of his family.
Harald was a proud German, husband, father and Opa, and his life was a reflection of hard work, family, tradition and integrity.
Harald is survived by wife of 60 years, Nona Sinow (nee McNeal), his daughters, Greta and Kira and his sons Cecil and Harald Jr, and his treasured grandchildren, Skylar, Elizabeth, Chloe, Kimberly, Sheridan Linden and August. He leaves behind his brother, Hans and many dear friends.
Harald was born with an adventurous spirit and came to Canada on his own at the young age of 18 and through many many adventures landed in Vancouver, where he met the love of his life Nona. Harald and Nona met at Kits Beach and were married in 1963, finally settling on a beautiful acreage in Maple Ridge where he built his beloved family home brick by brick.
He loved that farm and spent many an hour on his tractor, cultivating the land and patiently passing on his skills to his grandchildren. Harald loved living life and he loved sharing stories of his adventures (his recollection for details and events was astounding!) He avidly followed sports and tended to his garden in the back 30 acres. He was proud of his acres of blue berries, and many cows, horses and goats ;)
Above all, Harald adored his family. His marriage to Nona was a love story. The moments that mattered to Harald were in the company of Nona, his children, grandchildren and the envelope of family. With his incredibly generous heart, he guided, protected and supported his children. In his final years, Harald days were brightened by the energy and light of his beautiful grandchildren.
Harald began his career in bricklaying in Germany at an early age and brought his craft to Canada where he worked and shared his skills through running jobs on many a site both near and far.
Harald is at rest and once again enjoying the company of many of his closest friends and family.
