Helen Margaret Casher

April 19, 1926 – February 15, 2021
Passed away peacefully at Copper Ridge Place, Whitehorse YT on Monday February 15, 2021 in her 95th year. Helen was born in Edmonton AB on April 19, 1926.
She was predeceased by her husband Tom in 2009 and her sister Lucile in 2020. She will be greatly missed by her sons Tom (Susan) of Waterloo ON and Bill (Fiona) of Whitehorse, and grandchildren Claire, Chris, Gavin, and Tess.
Helen and Tom met in Vancouver where they both worked for the telephone company and were married in 1957. They moved to Maple Ridge in 1967 where they resided for many years, moving to Fraserview community on retirement.
Helen relocated to Whitehorse five years ago to be close to family.
In the 1970s, Helen began a 14-year career in education, advocating for the rights of children with special needs in public schools, and rose to Chairperson of both Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows School Board and the Douglas College Board of Trustees.
As well as being a talented gardener, Helen was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting family and friends for memorable meals on special occasions.
At Helen’s request, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life. Those who may wish to remember Helen through a charitable donation are invited to donate to an organization of their choosing in her name.
