Hildegard Anna Emili DEUCHLER

March 22, 2008

DEUCHLER,

Hildegard Anna Emilie

(nee Lange)

Died peacefully on March 22, 2008 at Baillie House, with her family at her side. Hilde was born Sept 15, 1913 in Heidelberg, Germany. She was predeceased by her husband Rudolf who, like Hilde, studied theology at the University of Heidelberg. In 1953, Hilde enthusiastically adopted Canada as her new home, and later attended UBC to become a primary teacher. Prior to her retirement in 1979, she was a much loved Grade 1 teacher at both Albion Elementary and Mount Crescent Elementary. Hilde was guided in all her decisions by a deep humanity, endless generosity, and by great moral courage. She is survived by her beloved sister, Trudi Bankes, whose care and support allowed Hilde to remain until last August in their shared home and to enjoy the garden Hilde so loved, her niece, Kim Floeck, her great-niece, Emily Floeck, with whom she shared a very special bond, her nephews Dr. Michael Hager (Inge) and Willi Lange, her great - nephews Florian, Mathis, Benjamin, and Dominik Hager, and by many friends. Hilde’s family is deeply grateful for the outstanding care she received from Drs. Mawani and Milewski and from the staff of Ridge - Meadows Hospital, and from the exceptionally compassionate staff at Albion Flats in Baillie House, where she spent the last 3 months of her life. No service by request.
