Hume passed away peacefully at home just two months shy of his 97th birthday. He was predeceased by his wife Audrey in 2011 and brother Gordon in 2012. Hume was very much loved by his son Terry (Karen) and daughters Susan (Bill), Kathy, and Marie (Drew); grandchildren Samara, Kari (Andrew), Emily (Fred), Ellen (Adrian), Ian, and Hunter; and great-grandchildren Griffin, River, Rhett, Miranda, Ivy, Jamieson, and baby boy due next month.
Hume was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and moved to West Vancouver at 16. He met Audrey while roller skating, married in 1949, and they made homes in Loco, Port Coquitlam and, for the past 56 years, Maple Ridge. As a young man, Hume travelled the world with the Merchant Navy in WWII and worked as Mate on the oil tankers along the BC coast. With four children, he changed careers and worked at Reichhold Chemicals in Port Moody for 34 years to be close to home.
Hume was creative and skilled at woodworking, building everything from models to homes. He could fix almost anything. After years camping with the kids, he and Audrey built a cabin at Sulphurous Lake in the Cariboo and enjoyed many summers there with family and friends. They also made numerous trips to Colorado to spend time with Marie and family - Hume got a kick from being a gentleman rancher with a herd of three cows! He took pleasure in telling stories from his life, teasing his grandkids and great-grandkids, shaking Christmas presents to guess what might be inside, and sipping quality scotch while reading a good book.
Hume enjoyed life and appreciated every day. He loved and supported his family. He will be so dearly missed.
