GERBRANDT - JACOB passed away peacefully in Holyrood Manor on January 29, 2005. He is predeceased by his wife Betty, grandson Michael and great-grandson Kyle. He is survived by his children; Marilyn (Brian) Beattie, Art (Elaine), and Don Brenda), sister; Justina, as well as 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grand-children. Jake was born April 14, 1909 in Russia, when he was one year old the family immigrated to Herbert, Sask., where they lived on a homestead in a 2 room shack with 18 full and step siblings. At 16 he "Rode the Rails" to Vancouver. He worked at a number of jobs including farming, milk delivery, logging truck driver, and eventually started his own trucking business hauling firewood, sawdust, lumber, and brick & tile. He retired at age 70 and then took up woodworking. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, singing in the church choir and being with family and friends. Jake became a Christian at age 16. He was a member of Maple Ridge Baptist Church where he served the Lord teaching Sunday School as well as other ministries. Grandpa Jake will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren for the checker games and the stories about "the old days". A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, February 4th, 2005 at 11AM at the Maple Ridge Cemetery. A Memorial Service will follow on Saturday, February 5th, 2005 at 11Am at Maple Ridge Baptist Church, 22155 Lougheed Hwy., Maple Ridge. Garden Hill Funeral Chapel, Maple Ridge. 604-463-8161
