December 13, 1932 - June 14, 2022
It is with deep sadness that we announce Jim's passing at the age of 89 after losing his gallant fight with cancer.
Jim was born in Stenhousemuir, Scotland. He was predeceased by his parents, Ellen and John; his sisters, Margaret and Frances and his brother Daniel. The passing of his son Derek (Sharla) in 2016 left a void in his heart.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Loretta, his step-son Karl Bridge (Angela), his brother-in-law Mark Stuart (Sandi) and his loving sisters, Lily Robertson and Ellen Pope.
He apprenticed as a Slater and Plasterer before being called-up for National Service serving as a medic in the Korean War. He returned to Scotland and later trained as a Psychiatric Nurse at Bellsdyke Hospital. He worked at the State Forensic Hospital at Carstairs prior to immigrating to Canada in 1967. Jim worked in various nursing roles at Riverview Hospital for 29 years.
Jim was a founding member and later President of the Union of Psychiatric Nurses, advocating for nurses and patients until his retirement in 1996.
He was a member of the Korea Veterans Association, Maple Ridge Unit and served as their Colour Sergeant.
Jim was a trained operatic tenor and enjoyed singing and travelling with the Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir, 1990-2019.
Special thanks to the staff at Maple Ridge Seniors Village, Dr. S. Loch and Dr. D. Okere.
Jim was a wonderful man who touched the hearts of many with his kindness, humour and generosity.
There will be no funeral service at Jim's request.
