1932 - 2019 ~ Died peacefully at Ridge Meadows Hospital on March 1. Joan grew up in Haney along with her many aunts, uncles cousins and grandparents.
Predeceased by her devoted husband Ken last November, parents Roger and Evelyn Harris, her daughter Heather, her brother Don, nephews John and Gavin. She is survived by loving son Rick (Mary), grandsons Thomas, William, Robert. Sisters in-law Charlotte McLennan & Elaine Harris. She was particularly close to her nieces Norma & Sharon (Dennis Zutz) and is survived by many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Joan graduated from Maple Ridge Secondary in 1950 and from the Royal Columbian Hospital in 1954. She nursed in various cities and communities across Canada before marrying her beloved Ken and raising her family in Haney.
Joan contributed to the community in many ways. People may remember that she worked in paediatrics at the local hospital for 25 years. They may also remember her as a girls softball coach, or as a Girl Guide/Ranger Leader, or as a swim coach at her family pool, or as an enthusiastic member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Fire Hall, or as an avid gardener and member of the Garden Club. Most recently Joan enjoyed the task of assisting the public as a Wayfinder on the front desk at the hospital.
Joan really appreciated the love, care and comfort she experienced recently from her friends and family and co-workers during Ken's illness and passing.
"Don't grieve for me, but don't you forget me either!"
