John passed away after a short battle with cancer with his family by his side.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret, his son Tom, daughter-in-law Cindy and grandson Cody. Also survived by his brothers Dave and Harry, his sisters Netty and Elsie, his brothers-in-law Jack and Dick, sisters-in-law Ina and Eileen and families, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Abe, Ike, Jake and Pete, brother-in-law Tom and sister-in-law Helen.
John worked for over 50 years in construction, building some of the first high rises in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. He used that experience to help family and friends with numerous construction projects.
In retirement John and Margaret did a lot of traveling, visiting overseas and the U.S., but mostly family and friends in Canada especially to see their grandson Cody who would become their traveling partner on many trips.
John needed a walking partner, so when his grandson Cody was born he couldn't wait to get Cody up and walking, along with his daughter-in-law Cindy they accomplished that rather quickly. John also enjoyed teaching Cody how to fish, ride a bike and play pool. John and Margaret would come up to Westbank to listen to Tom and Cody play music in the Westbank Country Opry.
Over the years John coached Tom and his friends' minor hockey teams, he loved to watch is son play all of his sports and then also watching his grandson ski and play soccer.
John was a very caring and helpful man, when family and friends would need a hand he was always at the ready. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A special thanks to the nurses and staff on 3 West and the McKenney Creek Hospice.
Donations can be made to McKenney Creek Hospice or the Maple Ridge Hospital Foundation in Johns name.
