Jon Edwin Harris

January 6, 1941 - November 21, 2019
Jon was proud to be born and raised in Haney and recently peacefully passed away on his beloved hazelnut farm. He is survived by his faithful son Quentin, and loving daughter-in-law Ann Marie. He took great pride in his two awesome grandchildren Asia and Noah. People who truly knew him - knew of his great accomplishments and local achievements. He was quoted as being the greatest mayor Maple Ridge never had - a testament to his willingness to be a team player rather than demanding the spotlight. If you were willing to lend an ear, then he was always willing to share a story from his life - whether it was from his RCAF days, political exchanges with mayors and councillors, his days rescuing and saving local lives with the Maple Ridge Volunteer Fire Department or his interactions as a Real Estate Agent or a Notary Public. When the long hours of coastal sunshine beckoned his soul, toutling up the coast aboard the Amby II was his way of getting away from it all. His legacy isn't tied up in things, inventions or historic events but rather by positively affecting people around him: to be thoughtful, see the humour in a difficult situation, to ponder different viewpoints, have patience and to see the best in someone despite circumstances. All of these qualities totalled to an influential man full of love, kindness, grace and a life well lived. An enjoyable evening would be to sit amongst family and friends on his back patio next to a warm fire, sipping a glass of wine while watching the sun go down. We'll continue to be there for many evenings - missing you and raising a glass to you...
