WIJENBERG

Joseph Hubert

August 27, 1930 ~ December 23, 2008

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Joe Wijenberg, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is remembered with love by his wife of 51 years Alberdina 'Dinie', his children Ernie, Carol, Carl and Rosanna, his grandchildren, Felicia, Bradley, Ryder, Colten and Amber, daughter-in-law Jodie, brother and sister Jessie and Frances and his extended family in the Netherlands. His parents Hubert and Anna Wijenberg and his sister Truus predecease him. Joe grew up in Maastricht in the Netherlands, immigrating to Canada in 1958. He worked as a chemistry lab technician at the Port Moody Oil Refinery for 30 years, retiring in 1990. In recent years, he lived in Whonnock with Dinie, Carol, Rosanna, Amber and his big white dog, Baron.

Joe lived his life with dignity and an innate sense of decency, sharing his high energy and his love for family and friends with near constant acts of service. A natural handyman, he loved to spend time in his workshop and could repair almost anything. Joe was easy to love with a ready smile, a keen intelligence and a goofy sense of humour. His sparkling brown eyes, open disposition and handsome face brought him many devoted and lifelong friends with whom he loved to spend time and go fishing.

Joe faced death bravely and with love. His loss is profoundly mourned. We are better for having had him in our life.

Joe's favorite charities were Christian Blind Mission International, Operation Eyesight, Covenant House Vancouver and Leprosy Relief Canada. In lieu of flowers a donation to one of these charities would be appreciated.

A memorial service was held January 3rd 2009 at the Wildwood Fellowship Church, 10810 272 St. Whonnock, Maple Ridge.
