Matthew Wilson FOLKA

April 5, 2007

FOLKA, Matthew Wilson

Our dear Matthew passed away on Thursday April 5th 2007 at the age of 37, with his family at his side, in England at the Severn Hospice, Shrewsbury, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Son to Brad and Sylvia, brother to Gary and Gail, husband to Janet, father to daughter Molly age 6, son Brendan age 2 and stepson Reece age 17.

Matthew was born in New Westminster, BC. When he was three years old the family moved to Whonnock, Maple Ridge where he spent his formative years going to school, playing sports and being a big brother to Gary and Gail. He loved hockey and he made his way to the WHL as an official, he also volunteered in the Maple Ridge Volunteer Fire Dept for six years, and worked as a Greens Keeper at local golf courses.

In 1996 Matthew moved to England to continue his Hockey Officiating with the IIHF which took him to Poland, Korea, and the Czech Republic.

He was also able to work at greens keeping in England, and was happy to discover a local baseball team (Shropshire Panthers) which he joined.

He made lifelong friendships with many in his short life, which he cherished.

The family wishes to thank everybody for their support throughout these past two years, special thanks to the doctors involved in his treatment, and to Severn Hospice who made sure that Matthew was comfortable, loved and cared for.

Funeral services were held on April 17th at Holy Trinity Church in England, Revd Matthew C. Stafford was the Officiating Minister. Along with family, many friends from the British hockey, baseball, golf course and neighbors attended.

Donations to Severn Hospice (justgiving.com) or your local Cancer Society would be much appreciated.
