December 21, 1926 - October 22, 2024
Muriel Bentley passed away at home on October 22, 2024, at the age of 97. Born December 21, 1926, in Parry Sound, Ontario as the second of six children to parents William Ernest Buckerfield and Eliza (Molly) Buckerfield.
Muriel grew up in Parry Sound, and completed her RN training at the hospital in Peterborough, Ontario. Once receiving her RN, Muriel worked in Bermuda and Montreal prior to moving to Vancouver with her brother. Upon arriving in Vancouver, Muriel worked at VGH. Following her marriage, she moved to Haney (Maple Ridge), where she worked as a home care nurse and later as a nurse's aide for the Maple Ridge Health Unit.
Muriel met her husband Allen at the Cloverdale Rodeo dance in 1957. They were married a year later and celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary shortly before Allen's death in 2021. Muriel and Allen raised their 4 children in Maple Ridge, moving to Vancouver in 2002.
Muriel was dedicated to her family. She enjoyed participating in her social clubs and volunteering within the community. She and Allen enjoyed playing bridge well into their later years. She lives on in the memory of her children Don (Sylvie), Judy, Rob (Lissa), Diana (Neil) and grandsons Allen Neil, Marc, Sean and Kyle, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise Senior Living for the care and support given to Muriel during her last few years.
