In Loving Memory - Nancy passed away peacefully on May 29th in Ridge Meadows Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Glasgow, Scotland to James and Isabella Dorward. A good student, a voracious reader and an athlete. She loved playing grass hockey living for "the crack of a ball on a frosty morning!"
Nancy was heavily involved in the Girl Guides eventually becoming a Captain of a Guide Company and the Camp Director for the city of Glasgow. After teaching for several years in Glasgow she emigrated to Canada settling in Nanaimo as a teacher in Cedar Elementary. She made many friends and always had fond memories of her years in Nanaimo. While attending summer classes at UBC she met Robert Thomson the love of her life. He gallantly helped her in stuffing a mouse tail for a project.
After their marriage they moved to Surrey where she taught for several years and then moved to Maple Ridge. Nancy was active in St. Andrew's (later Golden Ears) United Church. She was the Sunday School Superintendent for many years, an active member of the Harmony Group of the UCW, a choir member and a church board member. She was a volunteer in the local elementary school where she helped with literacy development. Nancy was a long-time member of the Lady Lions in Maple Ridge.
Predeceased by her husband Robert, Nancy is survived by her son Keith, daughter in law Lisa; daughter Rhona and fiancée Brendon; grandson Braeden and granddaughter Shayla; her life long friends Maisie and Michael Priestly and many other special friends made over her lifetime.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Golden Ears United Church or a charity of choice. A memorial service will be held at a later date after the Covid 19 crisis.
