BAKAN, OLGA

July 22, 1921 - November 11, 2009

It is with sorrow that the family of Olga Bakan announce her passing at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital on November 11, 2009 surrounded by her family. Born in the Ukraine to John & Tilly Beskorovayny, the family immigrated and established a family homestead in Gronlid Sasketchewan, where many descendents still reside. Mom left the farm at 16. This started a life long love of travel & change. She has now passed on to eternity where she will be greeted by family & friends who have gone on before her. She married John Bakan in 1944 and moved to Haney where they resided until his death in 1968. She worked in Clapisons and Essondale hospital for 15 yrs making life long bonds with Haney (Maple Ridge). During her lifetime she had lived in several towns in BC and the USA, but always returned to Haney, to her old friends. She moved to Cranbrook, BC 3 years ago to be closer to her family who lived in Cranbrook & Spokane Wash. She will be remembered for her honesty, independence, strong will, volunteer work, cribbage at the Legion, and love of cruising, clothes, shoes and jewellery. She was a strong pioneer woman who had a great loyality to family and country. She leaves behind to honor & remember her a daughter Natasha (Nancy) Malone, Spokane Wash. (husband Dwight Malone - deceased); granddaughter Stacy & a son Wilfred (Wilf) Bakan, Cranbrook BC (Ruth) and grandsons Jon and Jeff. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing her brother Harry Besko (wife Olga) of Gronlid Sask., plus many great and great - great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. There will be no local service by her request. Her ashes will be taken to Gronlid Sask. in the spring where she will be placed in the family plot. Donations to her memory may be made to the Heart and Lung Assoc, Salvation Army, Union Gospel Mission or the Legion .
