Ray was born in Vancouver to Finnish immigrants, raised and schooled in Vancouver's East End.
He went on to earn his Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from UBC. He was an Engineer and Project Manager on major highway projects, microwave installations and airport design and construction throughout BC.
Ray was a longtime resident of Maple Ridge, spending his last year living in North Vancouver. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Christena in 2017 and is survived by children Michael (Kim), Steven, Karen (Don), Carolynn and Terence (Judit); grandchildren Nicole, Alexandra, Samantha, Kate, Erik, Christena and Michael.
