Passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord in the early morning of July 18, 2006 after a seven year battle with lung cancer. He was 78. Born on August 27, 1927 in Bolsward, Friesland, Netherlands, he immigrated to Canada with wife Nancy in April 1952. He was a mechanic and businessman and founded Van der Wal Equipment on May 1, 1957 in Maple Ridge. He sold and serviced farm equipment throughout the Fraser Valley and beyond until his retirement in 1989. Pieter was predeceased by his wife Nancy on August 10, 1996. He leaves to mourn his five children, Rick, Mark C. (Marianne), Audrey Vandervelden (Steve), Peter (Tara), Russell (Tracy), 14 grandchildren, Clifton (Tasha), Stephen, Amber Dawn, Kevin, Jason, Michael Scott, Janna, Michael Stephen, Krista, Korrie-Lee, Jessica, Joshua, Zachary, Jacob, and 2 great grandchildren Dayton and Caden. Also brothers and sisters in Canada and the Netherlands, and loving companion Tina DeHaan. Memorial Service was held on Friday, July 21st at the Maple Ridge Christian Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Foundation, would be appreciated.
