Roy Steven Ryzak

It is with the most profound sadness that the family of Roy Steven Ryzak announced his passing on November 10th at the age of 72 years.
He slipped his earthly bonds peacefully, after a sudden short illness; his soulmate and wife of 31 years Helen, at his side.
Left to mourn are Helen, as well as his beloved daughters, Lindsey (Chris), Erica and Carol (Randy), brother Jerry (Merle), sister Sandy, grandchildren Logan and Eleanor, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews as well as his many good friends and his faithful dog, Skye.
He was deeply loved by all for his easygoing ways, quick wit and adventurous, but gentle nature. Everybody was his friend, and he was always eager to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. He remains an inspiration to many, and was widely admired as an avid outdoorsman. When he wasn't cycling, backpacking, kayaking or cross country skiing he could be found running the trails of Golden Ears Park until just a few short months ago. He was also respected as a highly skilled, self-taught woodworker. He spent many an hour in his workshop designing and building the most beautiful arts and crafts inspired furniture, which were just some of his many creations. His was a life well lived. It was full of love for his family and his many friends, and he will be so dearly missed by all who knew him. As a runner himself, Roy had a great admiration for our national hero Terry Fox, and his accomplishments in raising funds to fight the evil disease that eventually took both their lives. He rarely missed the opportunity to participate in the annual Terry Fox run. With that in mind, please consider a donation to the Terry Fox foundation in his memory (terryfox.org/ways-to-give/).
A celebration of Roy's life will be held at Valley View Funeral Home (14660 72nd Ave, Surrey) on December 11 at 10 am.
