October 25, 1944 - December 30, 2024
Our beloved Tahir Mian passed away peacefully on December 30th, 2024, at the age of 80.
Born in Amritsar, India in 1944 to Chaudri Mohammad Ali Mian and Iqbal Begum, his family soon settled in the newly formed Pakistan.
Tahir's desire for adventure carried him beyond those borders in the 1960s to pursue a master's degree at the Sorbonne in Paris and start a profession in banking. His career took him to Djibouti, then Montreal.
He settled in London, England in 1980, where he eventually started a family. After another brief period in Pakistan, they moved to Vancouver.
Tahir had the spirit of a bon vivant. He was a gourmand, and his style was as sharp as his mind. He never shied away from sharing his opinions on the shifting tides of politics. He had a progressive worldview and always championed his daughters' independence and ambitions.
Tahir was very close with his family members - including his two black cats. Known for his quick wit, he was also a friend to all children. Upon his passing, those who knew him saw him as a true gentleman.
Tahir called himself the luckiest man in the world, once saying, "in the moments before I die, I won't be afraid. I'll be smiling - because I'll be counting all my blessings."
Tahir is survived by his wife Sameen, his daughters Samrah and Ushna, his son-in-law Daniel, his brothers Nasser and Arif, his sister, Raheela, and his uncle Rasheed.
He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Zafar, and his sister Sitara.
