CREBER Velda (nee Varcoe)
Nov. 2, 1918 – Aug. 21, 2006
Velda passed away on Aug. 21, 2006 at Ridge Meadows Hospital in Maple Ridge, BC at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her husband Roy on June 4, 2006, her daughter Linda (Emil Banziger) in 1988, and her brother Jim Varcoe in 1993. Velda will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Cherry (Bert) Hooper of Maple Ridge, BC and her stepdaughter Normajean Novak of Long Beach, Calif.; grandchildren Kerry, Ryan, David, Alea, Janalee and great grandchildren Lucas and Kennedy. Velda was born in Herschel, Sask. in the family farmhouse and always spoke fondly of Prairie life. Following the breakup of her first marriage, Velda and her then very young daughter Linda headed west with a brief stop in Millet and Edmonton, Alta. Velda then settled in Vedder Crossing near Chilliwack and it was there that she met her future husband Roy, whom she married in 1951.
Velda’s employment years included hairdressing, office work at Frosted Foods in Sardis, Eaton’s, Carter’s Children’s Wear, and Pat’s Style Shop, all in Chilliwack.
Velda enjoyed working with her hands and was skilled in any craft that she undertook. She also loved cooking, gardening, camping and traveling.
A service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006 at 2:00 pm at St. John the Divine Anglican Church, 21299 River Rd. (at Laity St.), Maple Ridge, BC with the Rev. Charles Balfour officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at Chilliwack Cemetery with family members attending. At Velda’s request, donations can be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Cancer Society or cancer research in memory of Linda.
