Vernice Nadeen Horwood

On Sunday, August 18, 2019 we lost our mom, Nadeen at the age of 85. One year earlier, mom fell, fracturing her good hand, and she was no longer able to care for herself, so we moved her from Surrey BC to Baillie House, Maple Ridge in October, 2018. It wasn't easy to see this fiercely independent woman lose her physical strength and deal with mental deterioration.
Nadeen started writing poetry at age 13. Her handwritten poems, stories and songs, some published and award winners, are truly amazing and guaranteed to make you cry. She loved playing loud music, namely, Elvis, Johnny Cash and all Rock & Roll. She was a real unique spirit.
Nadeen was employed as a Homemaker in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows from 1979 to 1985. She had many elderly clients who absolutely adored her. In 1981, Nadeen, co-founded Mothers Against Drinking Driver's Canadian Society, and volunteered (victim assistance) until 1994.
Survived by her three children: Mel Horwood, Stacey Horwood (Brenda), Janice (Kelvin) Bolton, and three grandchildren: Bradley, Celina and Dylan. Although predeceased by her parent, Florence Orchison and Aksel Iverson, and her son, Randy, she got to enjoy many years with her siblings: Marvin, Lila, Iynes, Fern, Krystyne, and Brent along with their extended families. Along with the love she had for her family, Nadeen's fun-loving attitude and desire to enjoy life and bake for everyone, attracted her many wonderful friends throughout the years. She will be dearly missed by all.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 1 pm at Breakaway Bays Mobile Home Park's Activity Centre, 1840 - 160th Street, Surrey, BC.
