DURKSEN ~ Wesley Dean

On July 6, 2008, Wes stepped into heaven, face to face with Christ his Saviour. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 29 years, Teri; his children, Jeni, Karla (and Aaron), and Tim; grandson, Mason. Also missing him are his parents, Carl and Mary; sisters, Linda (Don) Hincks, Brenda (Mike) Loeschmann; as well as his in-laws, extended families, and his very dear friends. Born in 1954, he attended school in Maple Ridge, then went to Trinity College and UBC to get his education degree. He taught intermediate grades at Yennadon, MRE and Alouette. After getting his Masters degree, he went into administration at MRE, Highland Park, and then Harry Hooge. He absolutely loved the kids at his schools and was known as the principal who knew every student's name. He was a handyman who enjoyed woodworking and outdoor projects. He was a sports enthusiast (especially golf!). Wes had a beautiful singing voice and was a charter member of the KWAP motorcycle club. He found something to love in everyone he met, was courageous in his battle with cancer and always strong in his faith. Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, July 12th, at Maple Ridge Baptist Church, 22155 Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge. In lieu of flowers a Scholarship Fund in Memory of Wes Durksen has been established. Donations are to be made payable to the Ridge Meadows Education Foundation district office, 22225 Brown Ave, Maple Ridge, B.C. V2X 8N6.
