69, of Maple Ridge passed away suddenly on March 12th of 2016 surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with heart disease. He was born in Kenora Ontario, son of Daisy & John McIntyre. In 1968 he was married to Aline Wilcott in Winnipeg Manitoba. They have two children Tanya Oppedisano and Ian McIntyre. Wilfred McIntyre engaged in a distinguished lifetime dedicated to the cause of improving the lives of workers, their families and communities as a union leader, negotiator, organizer, and mediator. He served as the President of IWA local 2693 of Northern Ontario, the President of the Port Arthur Labour Association, the National Executive Vice President of IWA Canada and the United Steel Workers. He sat as a chairman, trustee and member of many boards and councils including his role as President of International Labour Council, Advisory Board Member of Lakehead University, Chairperson of the IWA Aboriginal Committee and Board Member of the Norther Ontario Heritage Trust Fund. He will be most remembered for his engaging personality and tremendous laugh, passion for his country, community and politics, love of travel and fishing and how he always made time for his beloved grand kids. An extremely committed family man and exceptionally caring grandfather he will be greatly missed by his wife Aline, his daughter Tanya and her husband Greg and their three children Aiden, Ainsley and Caius, his son Ian and his wife Michelle and their two children Jaxon and Isabelle. Survived by his sister Barbara Heino, brother Roy McIntyre, sister Marybelle Haney and many nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel 11969-216th street Maple Ridge, BC. Viewing will be from 7-9pm on Thursday March 17th with a Celebration of Life and gathering to follow on Friday March 18th. Memorial donations in memory of Wilfred may be made to Heart and Stroke foundation or Prostate Cancer Canada.
