William BEATTIE

May 9, 2005

BEATTIE – WILLIAM HARRY GEORGE. 1930 – 2005. Bill’s family are heartbroken to announce his passing on Monday, May 9th after an eleven month courageous battle with brain cancer. He was predeceased by his mother Dorothy, father Harry, sister Mary, granddaughter Zo, and son-in-law Nick. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife of 57 years, Shirley; 3 sons, Dorn (Deba); Dean (Debbie); and Drew (Cathy); 2 daughters, Gaye (Hedley) Giles; and Kathi (Vern)Pointen; and honorary daughter Gloria Sobb; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 nephews, Jim (Mary) and Pete (Debby) Brackenbury and their families; as well as many relatives and friends in B.C., Alberta and other provinces, the U.S., and U.K

Bill served proudly on the Calgary Fire Dept. (a job he always loved) for 35 years, beginning as a Rookie and retiring as Deputy Chief in 1986. Bill and Shirley moved to Maple Ridge, B.C. after retiring and spent 18 happy years golfing, entertaining family and friends and traveling extensively. Bill was a good natured man of great intelligence, strength, and caring. Always more than ready to lend a hand. He loved his family with a passion and was always nonjudgmental. He always said “Everybody does the best they can” and he did his best to the end.

He leaves a great void in our family and we were blessed to have him in our lives. We now leave him in God’s care.

The family would like to thank relatives, friends, and neighbors and our church family especially Rev. Charles Balfour who gave so much caring comfort all these months. We also so much appreciated all the cards, visits, phone calls, flowers, fruit, and food as well as so much assistance in so many instances i.e.: our lovely little Maple Ridge Hospital and wonderful staff who made these last 3 months as comfortable as possible.

If so desired, please donate to the B.C. Brain Cancer Society.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at St. John the Divine at Laity and River Rd. in Maple Ridge on Monday, May 16th at 11:00 A.M.
