Editor, The News:
I have enrolled 28 students in an Advanced Placement Psychology course for September at Maple Ridge secondary.
Disruption in September will significantly diminish the likelihood of these students succeeding in this course and gaining university credit at MRSS next year.
Those students and their parents will be exceedingly dissatisfied if this occurs, and rightly so.
As their teacher, I am personally doing everything I can to help bring about a negotiated settlement this summer. I am contacting and informing parents, teachers and community members on the issues. I am organizing and attending rallies, picket lines, and community events.
I ask what their MLA, Doug Bing, is doing to help ensure that these students can start their studies in September?
I have been informed that he is reading correspondence and meeting with constituents.
I am left to wonder if he is also advocating on their behalf with government leaders?
I also wonder how he would have felt if someone had let his dental studies be disrupted and found no one willing to stand up for him?
Is that what democracy looks like?
