At the back, where they belong

Veterans, not politicians, should have pension for life

Editor, The News:

I am so disappointed with the Conservative government about its stance of paying a small lump sum to our soldiers that have served  overseas and have come back wounded for life while serving our great country Canada.

They should have a pension for life, unlike our politicians who line up at the trough, serving two terms.

I haven’t heard of any of them being killed or maimed in the line of duty.

Now to add fuel to the fire we here that the George Derby Centre for Veterans is cutting 90 jobs and contracting out services – we all know the unfortunate results this will create.

They have said this will save a million bucks.

My God, Prime Minister Stephen  Harper spent more than that this week alone flying over his motorcade to India.

I will be out in force this Remembrance Day to honor and serve our veterans.

You and your Conservative party should remain far and away, at the back of the line, where you belong.

Lest we forget

Editor, The News:

Thank you, Economy Cottage – the hospital auxiliary thrift store – for its Remembrance Day display.

While all other stores were setting out Christmas stuff to  hurry us into mass consumerism, the  Economy Cottage set up a commemorative display to slow us down and to take the time to remember those who gave of themselves and their lives and to those who are still giving for this freedom we so take for granted.

It would be community changing if all stores could just take the first two weeks of November to remember and celebrate our freedoms here in Canada and be grateful to those who fought for and fight for this freedom.
