Collecting tolls is a matter of trust?

Letter writer John Turner couldn't sign up for TReO with cash

Editor, The News:

Re: No break for Golden Ears Bridge (The News, Sept. 19).

After deciding not to give TReO my credit information on line, I decided to go to its office and pay to register my vehicle in cash, thus eliminating the necessity for it to have my credit information – I thought.

I was told that in order to get the benefits of the 20 free trips, and the reduced rate of $1.50 per trip, I'd have to set up an account, giving TReO either my bank account or credit card numbers as a method of payment.

In other words, TReO doesn't trust me to pay it when it bills me, but I'm supposed to trust TReO with my credit card information and hope it doesn't make a mistake and automatically withdraw the money they say I owe it.

I don't feel the public should be held hostage, and be forced to give out sensitive credit information simply to get the benefits offered.

Also, TReO has already made billing mistakes, yet we're supposed to trust it?

As a possible solution to this bullying, I thought what I'd do is to take out a new credit card with a very low limit, then once I'm enrolled in the program, simply cancel the card.

As an aside, I was surprised to be told by the receptionist, TReO is in no way associated with TransLink, yet it takes payments for both bridges.

And the Golden Ears Bridge is a Trans Link project?
