Cost too much to go back

Editor, The News:

Re: Recall collected 2,000 signatures (The News, April 1).

The recall campaign would have reached the required 14,882 votes to remove Liberal MLA Marc Dalton?

Not likely.

The first 1,000 signatures are gimmes (NDP party members and canvassers). Organizers probably saw this number for two weeks, figured they might get on average another 500 signatures a week for a total of 5,000 and found a excuse to stop a fruitless activity.

If they thought they could succeed, surely they would have continued.

Piggybacking the HST vote would probably be a help to both causes, but the HST is maybe doomed to stay with us as well.

I signed the first petition because I didn’t like the way the HST was forced on us, but I will vote for it this time because we already have it and it will cost us more to go back to GST and PST.
