Dog owners taxpayers, too

Letter writer says Increasing the rules and regulations will only hurt the responsible dog owners.

Re: Pitt cracks down on dog owners (The News, July 25).

Elected officials and staff, we are extremely disappointed to find that much time and effort is being spent in increasing the regulations and fines for off-leash activities at our local parks.

Dog owners are taxpayers, too.

Increasing the rules and regulations will only hurt the responsible dog owners. The idiots who don’t clean up after their dogs, who let their dogs off leash at inappropriate times, who throw poop bags into trees will still behave the same way.

The majority of dog owners are good, responsible people who only let their dogs off leash at sports fields and schools at appropriate times.

Many of us clean up other dogs feces that we find at these parks so that we do not lose this privilege. not to mention cleaning up beer cans, coffee cups and assorted other garbage left over from baseball or soccer groups.

These parks were built with taxpayer money for the residents of our communities.

Please reconsider going ahead with these new fines and regulations. There are many more pressing issues to be dealt with. I wish I could provide you with a method of making not only dog owners, but people in general of being more responsible. But I cannot.
